If you are thinking of making home improvements there are a few things to keep in mind as you begin:
- Keep a wish list of home improvement projects
- Categorize the list by room
- Prioritize the list once you feel you are ready to begin
- Keep a home improvement fund so you dont go into debt once you begin
- Read design books and magazines
- Keep a file of pictures, etc. that you might like to try to employ in your design
- Browse home renovation and remodeling websites and businesses
- Visit furniture stores to get ideas of current trends in furniture design
- Before you begin make concrete plans
What if I don’t have the time to do this myself?
- If needed hire a professional interior designer/architect
- If using a professional be sure to get at least two to three proposals
- If using a professional be certain that their design fits your style
- Be sure the design is “livable” for your family
- Ascertain a clear timeline and budget
- Determine if they will be paid by the hour or by bid?
- Allow the designer/architect to manage the other professionals (contractors, painters, and electricians, etc., as well as, furniture deliveries)
